The acting is very average, but moderately convincing - meaning, while not A-level, the performances are not "over the top" or intentionally cheesy. The cast is very limited (under 10 actors), and none are standouts compared to others. "3" is not a "cheesy horror B-flick," but a low(er) budget independent horror/thriller that is meant to be taken seriously. Taken purely at face value, not comparing "3" to any other film, it is a purely average independent film. Any film can be compared to another, allowing for faults or faulty issues to be noted. This is a faulty means by which to review a film unless there are direct connections in the story, characters, actors or other facet. One item of note, when reading reviews, is that many are written by comparing the reviewed film to other titles.
It should be classified as a very average independent horror, revenge & torture thriller with average production. It may fade temporarily, but you know it’s coming back soon… Instead, it merely ebbs and flows like a relentless tide. In fact, the tension never really subsides in this movie. I think this film is also comparable to Misery (1990), Saw (2004), and A Darker Reality (2008).Ī tense sequence that is similar to a game of hide and seek is one of the film’s high-water marks. At one point, someone makes a comment that connects the movie’s events to Silence of the Lambs (1991). There’s quite a few scenes of torture in this film, so be ready for that. It also clearly delineates the motives of the characters.

Including these concerns make the movie more realistic, and certainly a lot darker in tone. The movie delves into issues that arise from molestation, post-traumatic stress disorder, gaslighting, mutilation, and depression. The movie also features Katie Carpenter from Fantasma (2017), and Jim Adams from All Hallows Evil: Lord of the Harvest (2012) in supporting roles. Mike Stanley from The Morningside Monster (2014) plays a very sympathetic character, even though he is being accused of rape. His character is complex and very convincing. Todd Bruno from Boyfriend Killer (2017) is fantastic in the role of Will. Despite everything she’s gone through, she remains the voice of reason in the story. It’s also horrifying and disturbing on a number of different levels.Īniela McGuinness (also from Agoraphobia) plays Christine. The script for this movie is well-developed and thought provoking.
